A Sad Story

You were so quiet and endearing,

I was so lonely and sad meanwhile.

A pink rabbit and cross earrings,

I only wanted to make you smile.

I loved you like a sister,

You told me that I’m kind.

I buy you flowers for your birthday,

You take them with delight.

“How do you do?” I say; you ignore me,

Just walk on as if I’m not there.

“Hilda, I care about you,”

No answer; ‘tis so painful to care.
